Things are popping at the toy industry's annual merchandise meltdown, as the Javits Convention Center hosts the biggest influx of economy-stimulating geeks outside of San Diego Comic Con! No puny blizzard can stop our toy companies, no sir! I gotta tell you, this year's showings do not disappoint...!
To begin with, one of my most hoped-for toys is actually happening - NECA is giving us a massive ED-209 to accompany their 7" Robocop figures! Just look at this monster!
Summer! Who can wait 'til summer?! That's a whole 'nother year!
NECA also had plenty of Jaegers on hand, the massive fighting suits from this summer's Pacific Rim - no surprise, but the Rim's monsters managed to avoid the spotlight...
It's excitement enough that NECA is giving Predator fans some Arnie "Dutch" likeness figures next month, but now we learn we'll also be treated to a full-scale Trophy Wall Diorama, as seen in the final scenes of Predator 2...
"Hudson, Sir - he's Hicks." Go NECA! They are going to war with new 7" Aliens figures! Here's hoping they get around to doing the entire squad, including Ripley and Burke - then get cracking on the 1979 characters!!!
And it looks like we're finally getting more Prometheus figures - Shaw and Fifield have a TBD release date, but hopefully these figures will see the light of day! NECA came loaded for bear and is dominating the 7" scale market for sheer coolness. Kudos to them for revisiting classic sci-fi properties of old and giving us the toys we always dreamed about!
Mezco is a back, as we saw
a couple of days ago. Here's another version of Walter, this time in his "Chef's Whites..."
Hasbro is bulking up their Marvel Universe line - here's Abomination and Baron Zemo...
Diamond Universe is still keeping it's hand in the Star Trek game - having moved on to slightly less poseable display environments, like Spock with the Horta...
...and an "I'm so high!" discotheque Kirk and Khan set - at least that's what it looks like...Come on, DS - still no Pike in Wheelchair? Don't you like money...?
Another wish list item fulfilled - McFarlane's wave 4 of Walking Dead figures will include Carl, in a dynamite sculpt. We'll also be getting Andrea and two versions of The Governor, one styled after his comic incarnation, due around October. These look fantastic.
And in a truly jaw-dropping surprise, Mattel unveiled a new series of 6" Batman figures, styled after the 1960's Adam West TV series! POW! WOW!
Yes, that is a monster to-scale Batmobile, a Toys R Us exclusive, compatible with the figures!
Holy Refinance, Batman!
Here's a look at the Batman blister-packaging. Pretty sweet.
That's all for day one - PHEW!!! Curiously, no word whatsoever from Playmates about any figures for Star Trek Into Darkness. Nothing but "Kre-O" building sets (read "Lego") and fighter pods. No sign of a figure line at all so far. Granted, it's only Monday - a lot can still happen, so watch this space for any surprises between now and Wednesday. I'm just happy about ED!
