Hot damn, it's a new holiday -
Alien Day! We've been looking forward to today
for a while, a chance for fans of the
Alien franchise to have their own annual day of festive dominance - with accompanying merchandise. Tons of swag hit the pavement today, but nobody garnered more attention than our favorite toy company, NECA, who began the day with a special version of Ripley that playfully tweaks her less than accurate vintage appearance as a Kenner action figure. It sold out on the Toys "R" Us website in just a few short hours...
Then the moment we've all been waiting for, when NECA enlisted none other than actress Carrie Henn - Newt herself - to Tweet out the full reveal of her very own action figure, complete with helmet and accessories, faithfully rendered after a thirty-year wait.
As usual, huge Kudos to Randy Falk and everyone at NECA for pulling off this great collaboration with Carrie Henn, with what's certain to be one of the most coveted figures of the year. While it's set to debut as a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, don't panic - NECA always makes sure faithful fans can obtain the figures via their online store or through brick-and-mortar outlets. Newt's been a long time coming, and they'll make sure fans can easily add her to their collections.
An exciting day that shows there's still plenty of life left in the venerable franchise. A day that concluded with one last peek at another long anticipated figure from Aliens, with a full reveal promised by the end of the week!
