There's no love like fan love...

As Comic Con begins to unfurl, attention must be paid to three examples of amazing fan love out there -

First, congratulations to Robert Kirkman and The Walking Dead, as issue #100 hits shelves tomorrow! In true excessive marketing mayhem, there will be 12 different covers, one of which can only be obtained by "surviving" the Walking Dead Escape Obstacle event - me, I'm partial to Marc Silvestri's and Ryan Ottley's work...

Star Trek fans worship the past, and there's no better proof than the recent Profiles in History sci-fi auction, where the dedicated fans of The Galileo Restoration project cranked the bidding up to $60,000 to win the rights to restore the famous TV icon, where they'll ultimately tour it to conventions and one day find the beloved Shuttlecraft a permanent home. Gentlemen, I salute you!

Finally, heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of Twilight fan Gisella G., who was struck and killed by a car as she crossed the street towards the San Diego Convention Center where Comic Con was about to begin - like many fans, eager to be part of the Twilight saga's annual convention panel. A very sad way to begin things this year. Have the time of your lives down there, friends - but please be careful.
